Your Week Ahead: February 4 to 10, 2024 – What We Need Is Here

6 of Coins, 6 of Cups, and 8 of Cups, from the Edmund Dulac tarot deck.

Sometimes we feel dependent, at other times, distinctly independent. We are very present within our world, yet somehow we need something extra to get us through. A kindness, a gesture of understanding, a little push, or perhaps some token of generosity. “Six” cards are linked to The Lovers and have this quality of “a part of” and “apart from”. There is a threshold of unity and duality and realizing what is taking place within that relationship both within ourselves and with others.

We may not know exactly what we need, yet we are given something that takes us further toward balance and to self-appreciation. In the 6 of Coins, we are visited by an angel who reaches out to us with a cup. We thirst for meaning, for connection, and for the valuable things in life. There are many layers to this card but essentially we are being given what we need, but more precisely, what we are ready to receive.

Most people think that receiving a large sum of money would bring the ultimate happiness and freedom. However, many lack the understanding of how to manage their finances properly and simply raise their spending experience to match those funds. They quickly run into the problem that their possessions require a much higher cost of living, and so they are brought back to the same issues they had before and ultimately the same lifestyle as before, perhaps worse.

To build knowledge (wisdom) and value (wisdom in action) takes time and a nourished approach to understanding our relationship to Source. Creating the world we want for ourselves is a joyous process that has its ups and downs, but always takes us toward something that is building and growing.

Gifts come in many guises and we cannot know how they will come and in what form. However, looking back, we can often appreciate the incredible phase of learning we acquired and the strength of purpose we came to embody. That’s a stepping stone for the future that creates self-esteem and a paradigm for abundance.

When the 6 of Cups appears in a reading, we are celebrating unconditional love and enjoying a period of safety and care. Here, a young girl has spent time with her grandmother, enjoying her home of flowers, toys, and delicious food. It invokes the nostalgia of our past, of being a child, and of being taken care of. As the girl is ready to leave, the two of them look at each other in a way that touches them both. The worries and troubles of the world are distant now.

There is abundance present, even in the simplicity of the grandmothers home. Life is uncomplicated, unrushed, yet full of the magic of plenty. Some things we can’t put a price on yet they provide a genuine space for comfort. Still, even here, we need to continue. We can’t stay in our child-like state forever. We can and must appreciate its time and place, but we must also know our mind.

As she leaves on her boat, we see her in the next card, the 8 of Cups, transformed into a man leaving with his possessions, trying to find meaning. This is a card of retreat and of a spiritual quest. It suggests a time of reflection and meditation, and wanting to fill our inner world with a missing element. What that missing element is exactly, we don’t know but we feel it. We cannot find it with anyone else, it is the desire to know one’s self.

It is evident in this week’s reading that we are being given many things that sustain us materially and emotionally. What is needed then is to find the peace and stability of inner sustenance. That requires self-discipline and an inner-generated vision. This again is the riddle of The Lovers card: Who am I when I am alone? It is the most profound and healing quest we can be on as we navigate our world of relationships. What we contribute has so much to do with our sense of inner value, and that is a light that needs to be seen by removing the clutter of doubt, guilt, shame, and old stories. It is forever our work to nourish, for such is the illusion that we are separated from our radiance. It is the illusion that wants to consume us, scatter us, and discourage us. Feel your unity with the universe, with divine energy. Feel it as your own intrinsic nature.

Take time to fill your cup so that you can then give from your overflow. Be an overflowing fountain and an example of that creative force. Recognize what it is that brings you nourishment and guide yourself there. Be still and quiet to see what arises. The gift of knowing yourself in a truly authentic way will prove to be an incredibly rewarding feeling, one that you will take with you, and one that you will no doubt share with those you meet along the way.

Affirmation: Thank you Universe, for giving me exactly what I need and for taking me to a place I can grow and be myself. Thank you for bringing the simple pleasures in life to me and for giving me a space to appreciate what is freely given. Let me continue to find myself and to discover the wisdom inherent within me so that it may blossom forth in new and beautiful ways.

Thanks for reading, and I wish you a wonderful week!
