Your Week Ahead: January 24 to 30, 2021 – The Good Strategist

7 of Swords, King of Cups, and 2 of Wands, from the Golden Tarot created by Kat Black.

Winning at all costs, or at least the temptation to do so, will be a source of confusion and pressure as the week begins. Whatever we’re working with, whether that’s work related or a project, or even a dynamic in relationships, there is something uncomfortable surfacing that is provoking us to respond.

In many ways, the desire to act is an illusion. Often, the 7 of Swords indicates the need to act. But as is maybe the case now, we’re acting without sufficient knowledge of what the implications will be as a result. A pressure to do something is there but the origin is uncertain. We may see a bold plan and feel compelled to take the initiative. The question to ask is: what do I hope to accomplish by doing this?

This is a card that asks us to be incredibly honest about our motivations. The first thing we can do is pause and consider the larger objective we are aiming towards. This week’s reading doesn’t suggest any rash decision leading to some unwanted and sticky situation. Rather, it is a flag for us to pay attention to what is driving us now. What do you really want?

With the King of Cups in the next position, we are indeed being called to have some emotional restraint. What is coming up for our consideration is to look back on previous experiences that have held a similar pattern. This can possibly be about some neglect, abandonment, or hurt that had shaped earlier decision making processes in our lives.

At best, this shows the wrong action taken based on unresolved emotional needs. We can keep returning to the fridge for ice cream because we feel lonely only to gain a lot of weight as a result. Or we can take a walk in the park and let our lungs fill with fresh air, leaving behind the weight of old stories running through our heads.

This same principle, funny enough, applies to many situations. Often, we find ourselves reacting in a certain way without really understanding why. We get further involved by perpetuating the cycle instead of seeing alternatives that don’t follow paradigms of habitual responses.

The King of Cups is there to ground us though. His maturity, as expressed through his emotional body, is established in integrity, particularly due to his strategic compass. He understands the sea, the tides, and the ocean currents. He is connected to them and feels them innately. Without suppression, he allows the waters to be as they may. He simply understands his environment and applies himself accordingly.

Where he is guiding us now is toward the higher ground and safety of the 2 of Wands. The message here is about a tactful retreat to examine our trajectory. The man holding a staff tells us to come back to what we know and to feel connected to the real purpose in our hearts, the one that is really driving us towards their fulfillment.

As he holds a small globe, understand that by creating our future and manifesting our intentions, we are setting things up for ourselves to be placed within its nucleus. Therefore, it is important to get clear of any emotional entanglements and disturbances within so that this new outward emergence is not merely a continuation of a cycle of action and reaction.

The man in the 7 of Swords is moving away and not facing his eyes towards the other two cards. The King of Cups and the man in the 2 of Wands, however, are looking directly at each other. THAT is the connection we want. That is the solution and the guidance we can tap into now.

Know your worth, know your past and be honest enough and brave enough to allow it to dissipate from your life. Take a better path, a new path, a more strategic path towards allowing all that you wish for to take its rightful place in your kingdom. Thus your actions become well timed and only good things will flow to you as a result.

Affirmation: In calmly understanding my past experiences, I let them be and know that today is an opportunity to make new choices. In looking towards what feels more authentic in my life, I allow more of my actions to be aligned with that truth. From here, I can see clearer, know deeper, and move with purpose.

Thanks for reading, and I wish you a wonderful week!
