Your Week Ahead: September 19 to 25, 2021 – What We Take With Us

The Sun, 9 of Swords, and Knight of Cups, from the Rider Waite Smith tarot deck.

The brilliance of The Sun card may still be vibrating and shining its warmth on our faces today and tomorrow. We may have felt rejuvenated, relaxed and more optimistic which has no doubt lifted our spirits and given us some hope for an uncertain future. Whatever is taking place, this week’s reading shows how this solar energy is blessing us and staying with us over several days.

The key to working with The Sun is to recognize the sources of plenty in our lives and to appreciate what is harmonious. Being in nature and taking in a deep breath while looking into the sun and sky creates this connection and opens up a relationship to what is meaningful and profound. If we can tune into our surroundings in this manner, we can loosen our stress and soften our hearts, and be like the open armed child riding carefree on a pony. This is what we take with us into our week.

Having a very contrasting card like the 9 of Swords following The Sun may seem like an unfortunate placement. But the only disconnection we see is the person who covers their eyes, unable to see the signs of astrology (wisdom) and roses (love) that keep them warm and comforted. Something has stirred us, yes. Feeling somewhat disturbed or kept awake, we are momentarily distracted.

The person here has awoken from sleep and there is the sense that conflict has followed them from the past. It is important to understand that this is a psychological state and that the conflict has arisen from the subconscious, since this is a nocturnal scene. We are bumping up against our fears and anxieties and how those have been triggered. What will help us is to shake off this momentary stress by coming out of the dream and not getting stuck in the past, especially past reactions.

Perhaps The Sun is showing us a new horizon, and for whatever reason, we think it is not possible. This resistance causes us to “think” we are trapped by circumstances or by the way things occurred in the past. We may feel we do not have sufficient options or creative choices. All of these sensations can be eased and nurtured by continuing to connect to our sources of inspiration, wisdom and love.

It is helpful to remind ourselves that things are different; we are different. Growth is always occurring, and flowing with those changes will sometimes feel chaotic. Trusting that the way forward will present itself and participating in a deliberate prayer of intention will be a creative approach to easing any tension and will slowly allow us to use those hanging swords as a ladder. Climbing out of a dark headspace and back into the light, and feeling the warmth of support around us is the message of the 9 of Swords.

What we take with us is love, and a dream that is perpetually calling our names. We are devoted to this calling. It is the calling of the Grail. Rising out of any perceived despair, we find ourselves back on our steed, a little more grown up and riding under the beautiful blue skies once again.

The Knight of Cups is a devotional card. His quest is the search for fulfillment of his creative purpose. For him, creativity is the mating with life and the yearning for unity with the divine. He seeks the embodiment of The Lovers, the internal and external twin experience that is like the master key which opens the portal to universal consciousness. We are more than mortal stuff. What are you devoted to? Let that guide you and take you forward. Love always knows best.

Affirmation: Every moment takes me on a creative journey. This is a moment for me to trust that what is presented to me is doing so because I am ready to work with it. Everything is unfolding as it is meant to unfold, and I am supported every step of the way.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring love.
Where there is offence, let me bring pardon.
Where there is discord, let me bring union.
Where there is error, let me bring truth.
Where there is doubt, let me bring faith.
Where there is despair, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, let me bring light.
Where there is sadness, let me bring joy.

O Divine Master, let me not seek as much
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love,
for it is in giving that one receives,
it is in pardoning that one is pardoned,
it is in dying that one is born to eternal life.

Prayer of Saint Francis
