Answers to our questions surface when we create a space for them to arise. Sometimes, it is necessary to slow down and not push the growth process so that a vital part of our integration of information can take place. If we proceed too quickly, we can skim over important messages coming to us. This week, there is a clear need to take care of ourselves and gently bring to rest things that have been bothering us for a while.
This week’s reading takes us a little deeper than usual by starting off with a major arcana card, The Hanged Man. We are working with something a little bigger, more over-arching or involving a longer time span. Whatever it is, the time has come to examine where we are from a different perspective.
Often, we can feel with this card that an alternative approach is needed in order to decipher how we’ve progressed, or how we’ve been held back from progression. This change of outlook doesn’t feel right. It’s awkward and uncomfortable. However, if we don’t surrender to this prompting, the opportunity that lies in that position will be lost. So, we are nudged along to go with the guidance that is being given.
We could be looking at uncomfortable aspects of our behaviour and responses, or our inability to let go of old psychic material. It is good to look at everything now and to bring a sense of peace to what we see, even if we don’t like it. The effect of being pulled down into our core will ultimately serve us in our preparation for our reemergence.
This imagery of being pulled down is heightened by the figure tied on the tree moving to a resting position lying down (4 of Swords), and then further moving to lying on a beach face down (10 of Swords) with the swords that were hung on the wall now grounded through us and into the earth. The emergence is there, shown in the receding dark night and the coming morning.
“If any true meaningful realizations are to be had, we must apply our own sincere appraisal…”
Each figure is lower than the preceding one which suggests something that needs to end. This could be a toxic mental pattern that we need to be honest to ourselves about. If any true meaningful realizations are to be had, we must apply our own sincere appraisal of how we interpret events and respond to them.
We will also notice that a significant part of our life has ended. Perhaps The Hanged Man is presenting us with the realization that we are not living the life we once were anymore, and that we need to move on and accept a new life cycle. The 4 of Swords represents a time of integration and rest, even retreat. Conflicts that seemed to have dominated our life are put on hold.
In this moment of calm, the old is laid to rest. Indeed, we may see that it needed to happen long ago. The time of operating in the dark is passing and a new light is slowly reaching us, bringing warmth to our face once again. There is no need to worry or to apply any action. Most times, the 10 of Swords suggests that the action has already taken place and that this is a time to let things pass. What is done is done. Acceptance brings peace and restores our hopes for new things to arise.
This reading may seem to be gloomy or dark. I can reassure you whole heartedly, that is the farthest thing from the truth. This is a beautiful layout, clear in its meaning and encouraging in its guidance.
The process of change and purification is present here and is washing us clean of emotional and psychic debris. Remember that we are light-beings experiencing a physical world. This may help us in stepping aside from the mundane and allowing Source energy to move us into a new and fresh reality.
Affirmation: What is old is gone. What is finished is over. I allow myself to be cleansed and released of those things which do not serve me anymore. Where I am and where I am meant to be, I allow the universe to guide me and present the way.
Thanks for reading, and I wish you a wonderful week!
